Topic: Green considerations for the prevention of damp and mould.

Session details:

Whilst a long term issue as identified in legislative instruments such as the HHSRS, the prevalence of Damp & Mould has seen an increase in exposure due to the Social Housing Regulation Act 2023 and in particular the tragedy that resulted in Awaab’s Law. With the UK having the oldest housing stock in Europe, 32% of properties built before 1919 are currently non decent inclusive of issues with Damp & Mould. Likewise, according to most recent reports, 798,000 homes (3.8%) across all sectors have damp in at least 1 room to which the Housing Ombudsman has seen a near doubling of related complaints from 21/22 to 22/23. Whilst we are seeing action from our residents in terms of complaints and exposure to issues, how are we able to be resident focussed and cost effective in our asset management as well as to ensure sustainable homes for the future?

This active conversational session will focus around:

  • Accessible Legislative & Factual Rationale of Damp & Mould as an issue as well as prevalence
  • Strategic Best Practice Considerations around Damp & Mould
  • Resident Best Practice in Damp & Mould Reduction
  • Technological/Measure Practice for Damp & Mould
  • Being Accountable with Housing Ombudsman/Regulatory Requirements
  • Designing Damp & Mould Reduction into Net Zero Strategy and influencing organizational culture

The Climate Change Hub is pleased to announce its latest best practice group.

Best practice groups are free to members and are a fantastic opportunity to hear about what’s happening in the sector and network with fellow housing professionals.

As always, the session will be facilitated by Jon Daley, and take place via zoom.

Why you should come to the best practice group:

  • Great way to find out what others are doing
  • Good, honest and open discussions
  • Sharing best practice and ideas with others in similar roles
  • Acts as a sense-check about what people are doing or thinking of doing.

If you’re new to the network or haven’t attended a best practice group before, this is what your housing colleagues are saying about them:

“Every meeting that I’ve attended has given me a new idea to take away or helped me understand how I could improve my service”

“The best practice groups have been really useful. They offer reassurance on our processes, new ideas and a chance to meet new and familiar colleagues working in housing”

“A safety net to ensure nothing is forgotten or overlooked. So many things change in legislation or best practice it’s good to hear what others are doing to challenge your own thought process”.

“The best practice groups are fantastic. I’ve been inspired by many of the shared ideas, information and knowledge that colleagues bring”

Best practice groups are a great way of engaging with your network/hub members.

We look forward to seeing you there!
