As a sector, we focus on decarbonising our buildings – but what role do our natural defences in the form of ecology play in all of this? Similarly, are there other ways of helping to reduce carbon strategically in the design of buildings, and how can we ensure offsetting via planned means?

As always, the session will be facilitated by Jon Daley, and take place via zoom.

    What will be covered:

Understanding the context – what areas do we need to look at? What options are there inclusive of natural methods?

How do we measure our impact? – map layering, tree surveys, target setting, science-based targets

Natural challenges and solutions – need for trees, maintenance and associated issues

Strategic challenges and solutions – new development offsetting, tree planting and maintenance, resident engagement and challenges

Why come to the best practice group?

This is your chance to find out more about what’s going on in the world of new development. The event will be chaired by Jon Daley, Asset Sustainability Manager at Wirral-based, 13,000-home HA Magenta Living.

Magenta Living are currently taking active steps to offset their stock inclusive of a partnership with the local authority on tree stock increase and a planned tree maintenance programme (inclusive of replacement/reparation of trees), as well as having a very active environmental department as recognised by national environmental award, SHIFT.

On top of this you’ll be joined by peers to find out what others are doing; given the chance to have honest and open discussions about the world of carbon offsetting; as well as given the opportunity to share best practice and ideas with a group of likeminded professionals.
