Practical top-up learning without the burden of a full qualification for housing professionals, managers and leaders

The Competence and Conduct Standard is a major step forward in the professionalisation of the social housing sector.

HQN’s top-up modules offer a practical, flexible and proportionate solution. Build confidence, evidence CPD and address knowledge gaps with HQN’s practical one-day top-up modules. They are a targeted way to address identified learning needs while supporting workforce capability.

Participants benefit from:

  • Practical, housing-specific learning
  • Direct alignment with the Competence and Conduct Standard
  • Expert-led training from experienced housing professionals
  • Current sector knowledge and best practice
  • Real-life case studies and scenarios
  • Opportunities for discussion, reflection and peer learning
  • Flexible one-day attendance
  • CPD-certified learning and assessment
  • Clear evidence of learning and professional development.

Housing providers must be able to demonstrate that senior housing managers and executives have the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to deliver safe, effective and resident-focused services.   For many organisations, this will involve reviewing existing qualifications, identifying any gaps and putting appropriate learning in place. Whether used to address a specific learning need, support regulatory assurance or form part of a wider CPD programme, the modules provide relevant learning that supports better services and improved outcomes for residents. They support workforce reviews, qualification gap analysis, regulatory assurance and wider CPD planning, while helping experienced staff refresh their knowledge and strengthen professional practice.

The modules are intended to address identified knowledge gaps, including gaps within a partially compliant qualification. They do not replace any underlying regulated qualification requirement that may apply to an individual’s role.

Each module is delivered as a focused one-day training course, designed to maximise learning while minimising time away from operational responsibilities.

The learning is practical, interactive and rooted in real housing scenarios.

The emphasis throughout is on practical application and improving professional practice.

Successful completion leads to a CPD certificate, with each module providing six hours of recognised continuing professional development through independent CPD certification.

CPD certification recognises the learning and professional development provided by the module. It does not mean that the module is a regulated Level 4 or Level 5 qualification:

  • Each top-up module includes a short post-course assessment of learning, designed for experienced housing professionals and focused on practical application rather than academic study
  • Participants complete a brief knowledge check, reflective exercise and application of learning statement to evidence that key knowledge has been understood and learning has taken place
  • There are no academic essays, portfolios or lengthy assignments.

It’s your choice – choose from:

  • A scheduled course – ideal for individuals, network with practitioners from other organisations, share experiences
  • In-house delivery – ideal for groups of colleagues who need the same development or want to build a consistent approach across teams. Course content can be tailored to reflect your organisational context, local priorities, policies, service challenges and resident expectations.

Whether you want to train a single team, support a group of senior managers or roll out a wider programme across your organisation, HQN can help shape the content and delivery options around your priorities.
