The government has allocated nearly £4 million in funding to local authorities across England to help them collect Tenant Satisfaction Measures (TSMs) data for 2024-2025.

All registered providers of social housing are required to meet the Regulator of Social Housing’s requirements in relation to the TSMs, including publishing their satisfaction figures annually.

According to a letter from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG), the purpose of the £3.9 million grant is to support local authorities with social housing stock to fund the collection of the TSMs over the 2024-25 financial year.

Local authorities with 100 units of stock or less, will receive a flat rate of £2,400. The allocation of the remaining funding is distributed according to each local authority’s estimated survey collection requirement as a proportion of the overall total surveys required to be collected. The government says this methodology acknowledges the correlation between the increase of survey requirements on local authorities and the associated cost burden.

The letter added that the funding has been paid through a Section 31 grant and is not ring-fenced.

The TSMs were introduced via the Regulator’s standards in April 2023 and require registered providers to collect, process and publish information about their performance. This includes information relating to their compliance with the consumer standards and their tenant’s satisfaction with the housing and services they provide.
