Topic: Tenancy sustainment.

The Housing Management Network is pleased to announce its latest best practice group, giving attendees the opportunity to network and share experiences, expertise and challenges with fellow housing management professionals.

This session will focus on tenancy sustainment. Across the country, frontline staff are working closely with tenants to support them to keep a roof over their heads at a time when many are really struggling with the cost-of-living crisis.

Join us to discuss the challenges of tenancy sustainment and to hear best practice examples from others in the sector working in this area.

This session will be facilitated by Bobbie Hough, and take place via zoom.

Why you should come to the best practice group:

  • Great way to find out what others are doing
  • Good, honest and open discussions
  • Sharing best practice and ideas with others in similar roles
  • Acts as a sense-check about what people are doing or thinking of doing.

For most landlords in the sector, eviction is absolutely a last resort. Each eviction costs around £15,000 in legal fees and has a long-term impact on the tenant.

It makes moral and financial sense for landlords to do all they can to support tenants to keep a roof over their heads.

But in the wake of the cost-of-living crisis, more tenants are struggling to make ends meet, pay their rent and even put food on the table. An increasing number of people are facing complex issues such as mental health issues or substance misuse on top of the stress of money worries.

Tenancy sustainment officers navigate challenges every day while trying to support tenants to the best of their ability, from helping people to maximise their income, to linking them up with local support services.

Frontline staff do an incredibly valuable job, but it’s a job that can take its toll, especially when there will be limits to what they can do to help people in some cases.

If you’re new to the network or haven’t attended a best practice group before, this is what your housing colleagues are saying about them:

“Every meeting that I’ve attended has given me a new idea to take away or helped me understand how I could improve my service”

“The best practice groups have been really useful. They offer reassurance on our processes, new ideas and a chance to meet new and familiar colleagues working in housing”

“A safety net to ensure nothing is forgotten or overlooked. So many things change in legislation or best practice it’s good to hear what others are doing to challenge your own thought process”.

“The best practice groups are fantastic. I’ve been inspired by many of the shared ideas, information and knowledge that colleagues bring”

Best practice groups are a great way of engaging with your network/hub members.

We look forward to seeing you there!
