Housing Secretary, Michael Gove, has responded positively when asked about building “a new generation of green homes for social rent at scale”.

Speaking the House of Commons yesterday, Labour MP Mike Amesbury asked the Secretary of State, “Will the Secretary of State grab the bull by the horns and build a new generation of green homes for social rent at scale?”

Gove simply replied: “Not a bad idea”.

It was Gove’s first outing in the Commons as Secretary of State for the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

He also shed some light on his thinking regarding the planning reforms he has inherited.

“It is only fair to say that the planning White Paper was mischaracterised by many,” he said.

“There is so much that is good in it, but it is important that we listen to concerns that were expressed in order to ensure that an already powerful and compelling suite of proposals is even more effective.”
