Homes

Several figures in the housing sector have been recognised for their services to housing and homelessness.

Notting Hill Genesis CEO, Kate Davies, was awarded an CBE for her services to housing. She’s been CEO of the organisation since 2004 and seen it through a major merger.

She said: “I am completely overwhelmed to receive this honour, especially in the Queen’s Jubilee year. It is a challenging time for housing associations and we aren’t always flavour of the month, so it is heart-warming to see the contribution we make to the housing sector and the country reflected in this way.

“While I feel immense pride, I do recognise the real strength of this organisation comes from the amazing staff we have at all levels who are so committed to improving the lives of residents and strengthening the communities we serve. We can’t and don’t get everything right, but our heart is always in the right place, which I think is reflected in this award.”

Former Crisis Chief Executive, Jon Sparkes, has been awarded an OBE for his services to homeless people.

He said: “I am truly delighted to be recognised in this way. It was a privilege to be part of the Crisis team over the last 7 years working to end homelessness, by working alongside thousands of people experiencing homelessness and working with governments and colleagues from across the homelessness, housing and local government sectors to put in place policies and plans to end homelessness in the UK.

“I am pleased to accept the OBE both as a recognition of my own contribution and more importantly as a recognition of the amazing work of my former colleagues at Crisis.”

Jamie Brenchley, Housing Needs Manager at Isle of Wight Council was awarded an MBE for his services to homeless people, particularly during Covid-19.

He said: “I am very humbled to be recognised for the part I play within our local system. However, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

“I am very blessed to work alongside the most wonderful colleagues, system partners and service providers who have and continue to collaborate on a mission to end homelessness here on the Island.

“I’ve spent my career trying to make a positive difference to the lives of Island people who have or are experiencing adversity. I am very proud of the impact and progress that I have led in recent years but am acutely aware that we are in the eye of a perfect storm.

“There is still so much more we need to do to ensure everyone on the Island has a place to call home. It is vital we continue on a positive trajectory and ensure we provide the very best services within the constraints of the resources we have available.”

David Eastwood, the Rough Sleeping Lead at the Greater London Authority, was awarded an MBE for his services to homeless people.

Ed Walker, Founder and CEO of Hope into Action, was also awarded an MBE for his services to tackling homelessness.

Kate Thompson, Head of Extra Care Services, Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust was awarded an MBE for services to Social Care and Charles Knight, a volunteer with Poole Housing Partnership, received a BEM.
