Metropolitan Thames Valley has hit out at the Rwanda refugee policy, urging government to “reconsider its approach”.

In a strongly worded statement, MTV said it has a “long history of providing homes and support to refugees” and that “by giving people the tools and support they need to build a new life here — often after they have fled unimaginable suffering, persecution, and war — people have the chance to live well and to contribute to society.”

However, the housing association says this policy does not meet those standards.

The statement continues: “We are deeply concerned about the government policy to process some people’s applications to live in our country in Rwanda.

“It fails on the basic principle of needing to treat people with human decency. We strongly urge the government to reconsider its approach.”
