A £400m boiler scrapping scheme is being planned by government in an attempt to get households to get rid of their energy inefficient boilers.

The hope is to offer home owners £7,000 ‘green grants’ in an attempt to buy low carbon alternatives and will aim to build around 60,000 heat pumps.

This £400m is due to be a beefed up £100m Clean Heat Grants, which launches next year and is £100m with grants of up to £4,000.

This latest plan comes after the Green Homes Grant was cancelled before it was due to end due to lack of demand. Builders and home owners said the scheme was overly complicated and didn’t work for many.
