Happy Halloween! A day, perhaps, for reinvention in the bogeyman community? ‘Bogeymen’ that exist in the frenetic ‘minds’ of the far right, that is.

For Bill Gates – the Covid creator/inventor and mastermind of nefarious vaccines in the imaginations of the terminally troubled – has declared that climate isn’t much of an issue as far as he’s concerned. This will surely lead to a reappraisal of the Microsoft chieftain in the interesting brains of those that hold that coronavirus inoculation and concerns about fossil fuel combustion are devious schemes (it’s generally the same people) – or will a bout of cognitive dissonance flourish and ring true?

I don’t care.

Actually, Gates hasn’t claimed that CC isn’t much of an issue. I was doing that thing journalists do: take a slither of something and expand/generalise it until it suits the writer’s views/views of the readers. Clever, innit?

What he actually reckons is that CC is a very pressing issue and that people in the poorest countries will suffer the most – but that humanity won’t be wiped out by it: “People will be able to live and thrive in most places on Earth for the foreseeable future.” That’s not overly reassuring, is it?

Anyhow, what’s brought on this change in outlook? I’m not sure, but I think it’s got something to do with AI – the current obsession of the handful of people with most of the money. It’ll be TVs you can wear as hats next year.

Meanwhile, here’s a thing here about the ludicrous GB News, and how limp-wristed media regulator Ofcom has been in, well, regulating it.

Despite many complaints about the delirious station’s mendacious drivel around CC, the toothless regulator has failed to rule that any amount to a breach of the broadcasting code.

As well as GB News presenters frequently referring to CC as a scam etc, last November host Leo Kearse really excelled himself when he told his viewer that the evil Starmer government planned to bring in “enforced veganism”.

Now, as an insufferable vegan myself, I have no objection to such a proposition in principle – but as neither the Labour government nor anyone else remotely connected to power, has, as far as I can tell, ever suggested such a thing, the remark has to be either a lie or incipient lunacy (probably both).

But it didn’t seem to bother Ofcom much, as nothing happened. And fake news is an internet problem, apparently.

Anyhow. What else? This article from the hated BBC looks at the science behind hurricanes and ponders if CC is responsible for their growing power, which was demonstrated by the vast destruction in Jamaica this week following Storm Melissa.

But don’t let increasingly dangerous weather ruin your Halloween – trick or treat yourself to an evening of GB News*, where everything is ok really, and the only true horrors are the vegans.

*I don’t advise that you actually do this.
