Get the lowdown on the Renters’ Rights Act and its practical implications for councils and housing associations in the company of HQN’s Roger Jarman and Anna Bennett from Devonshires.

Media coverage of the Renters’ Rights Act has focused on the rebalancing of the landlord-tenant relationship, from the end of ‘no fault’ evictions to improving the quality of rented homes.

But there are other implications for local authorities (homelessness discharge via PRS; pressure on allocations) and housing associations (AST/starter tenancy models, rent notice/appeals, possession strategy).

At this 90-minute session, we’ll map out the key milestones, highlight what’s live now, and provide you a practical plan so you can prioritise your work and update relevant policies. There will also be plenty of time for discussion.

    What will be covered:

    You will:

    • Get up to speed on the new Act – understand where we are now, the timetable for implementation and the immediate priorities to focus on
    • Understand the local authority perspective, from the new landlord database to increased enforcement powers
    • Understand the housing association view, including the shift from ASTs to periodic tenancies, rent increases and First-tier Tribunal (FTT) appeals and the implications for possession grounds.

    What delegates can expect:

Delegates will leave with clear practical actions to take forward — from updating policies, tenancy documents and rent letters to planning staff training to strengthening board/cabinet assurance and communications.

You’ll have a clear understanding of your priorities – what to implement, what to monitor into 2026 and what to do next.
