We don’t deliberately aim to stigmatise or stereotype others – however, language, attitudes and behaviours can inadvertently add to the negative experiences of residents. As well as challenging the media and government to avoid negative stereotyping, we also need to consider our own part in this as housing professionals.

This session will provide delegates with an opportunity to reflect on the causes and impact of stigma, reflect on their own language and behaviours and develop positive ways to champion their own professional reputation, that of their organisation and the wider sector.

Importantly, it will help delegates to identify how to challenge negative stereotypes in a positive way. The course will be very practical and interactive based around a mixture of scenarios that delegates will be able to relate to with break-out rooms and activities.
