Following the Grenfell Tower tragedy in 2017 the government commissioned Dame Judith Hackitt to undertake an independent review of building regulations and fire safety. Her final report, “Building a Safer Future” contained 52 recommendations for changes across the life cycle of high-rise residential buildings from design through to construction and occupation. These recommendations have now been translated into a raft of legislation which will see a seismic shift in how buildings over 18 metres are built and managed.

This session will look at the key changes that have, and will be, introduced by the Building Safety Bill and other related legislation. It will focus specifically on the “in occupation” phase as it applies to existing buildings. This session will help you to prepare for the forthcoming changes and offer practical support on what you should be doing now.

  • Our trainer

    Debbie Larner has been working in social housing for over 30 years – most of which was spent at CIH as Head of Practice. Debbie has led the CIH work on professional standards and has also been leading on building/ fire safety since the Grenfell Tower disaster. She was a key member of the Industry Steering Group focusing on the role and the competency of the Building Safety Manager.
