Michael Gove has been named Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities by new prime minister Rishi Sunak, just 111 days since he was sacked from the same role by Boris Johnson.

He replaces Simon Clarke who only lasted 49 days in the role.

Gove was a fairly popular figure within the social housing sector during his tenure, making good on his building safety promises and introducing the Social Housing Regulation Bill.

He also brought forward the Renters Reform Bill for the private rented sector, and has been praised for getting to grips with the brief and holding positive meetings with stakeholders.
