The government this week sent out legally binding contracts to developers asking them to commit to repair unsafe buildings, and has set a six-week deadline for them to be signed with the threat of “significant consequences” should any develop refuse to sign. Legislation will be brought forward in the spring giving the Secretary of State powers to prevent developers from operating freely in the housing market if they fail to sign and comply with the remediation contract.
