The Housing Ombudsman and repairs-related complaints – a look behind the data

Responsive repairs remain the dominant driver of resident dissatisfaction, formal complaints and Housing Ombudsman findings in social housing. Ombudsman learning is not a complaints team issue: it is a leading indicator of service failure, regulatory risk and future Awaab’s Law or disrepair exposure.

The Ombudsman publishes quarterly landlord statistics and thematic ‘learning from severe maladministration’ reports. In parallel, the Regulator of Social Housing publishes Tenant Satisfaction Measures (TSMs). Together they give landlords an external benchmark against which to test internal repairs narratives.
