Suitable for:       IA What does this mean?

With practical exercises and examples, you’ll learn how to use an information design approach to write reports that cut through and create understanding.

Well-written reports deliver information that is:

    • Concise and clear
    • Easily understood
    • Helpful to decision-makers.

    We will cover:

Knowing what to include, and at what level of detail.

    Steps here include:

    • Knowing what your readers need and why
    • Understanding how busy brains process information
    • Using critical thinking to identify key messages.

Creating a helpful structure and finding the right tone

Your readers want clear and relevant information that will help them to make good decisions. We’ll identify how to:

    • Organise content into a logical structure that’s easy to navigate (even when different readers want different things)
    • Write confidently about risk, regulatory and legal matters.

    How to present information effectively
We’ll practise using a handful of information design principles to improve the content and impact of your reports. This will include writing clearly, and using graphs, tables and diagrams well.

When AI helps…and when it doesn’t

Using AI can help you to write better reports, but it can also lead to reports that frustrate and disconnect your readers. We’ll look at how to get the best out of it.

Bring a recent report to use as a working example throughout the session. You’ll leave with practical ideas in place about how to make your reports sharper and shorter.

    Who should attend?

Everyone who wants to improve their report writing skills, including leaders, managers and team leaders.
