The Court of Appeal’s decision in Mazur has prompted widespread discussion across the sector, particularly around what can be delegated, what remains a reserved legal activity, and what effective supervision looks like in practice. Get the latest best practice advice from Birkett’s.

The latest Law Society practice note makes clear that this is not simply a case of business as usual: while some tasks can be carried out by non-authorised staff, responsibility, direction, supervision and control must remain with an authorised person.

Join us for this timely session to explore what the judgment and subsequent guidance mean for housing providers and legal teams. We will look at where the boundaries now sit, what organisations should be reviewing in their current arrangements, and where misunderstandings may still arise.

This session will give delegates the chance to:

    • Understand the key points arising from the Mazur judgment and the Law Society guidance
    • Consider what can and cannot be delegated in litigation work
    • Look at the practical implications for solicitors, paralegals and wider teams
    • Reflect on supervision, accountability and risk in day-to-day practice
    • Raise questions about how the ruling may affect current ways of working.

With questions already being asked across the sector, this session offers a valuable opportunity to get clear on the practical implications and avoid false reassurance or unnecessary confusion.
