Welcome to your weekly climate change update, which now comes out every three months. Has anything changed since Christmas? Is everything ok now? Let’s find out!

Flaccid regulator Ofcom has apparently decided that it should probably do some regulating after all, as this story explains. Despite receiving plenty of complaints about the misinformation (lies) spouted about CC on the Murdoch-owned TalkTV and TalkRadio, Ofcom felt all was well. But it’s now U-turned after pressure from campaigners. So, good work there.

One complainer complained after a guest on the absurd outlet claimed CC is “a deliberate effort to create fake anxiety…out of something that is false.” ‘Fake anxiety’? How can anxiety be ‘fake’? Oh well, never mind. We live in an age where the US president can claim a war is simultaneously over, ongoing, complete, won, yet to be decided, beautiful, tragic all in the same afternoon – and we collectively shrug. Oh well, never mind.

Talking of dreadful media outlets that are synonymous with rabid CC denial, the owner of the lunatic GB News has been criticised by concerned clerics.

Billionaire Paul Marshall describes himself as a “committed” Christian – after all, Christ did state that “wretched are the meek for they shall be sent back where they come from” – but his fellow followers of the Word aren’t impressed with his channel’s antics.

In a letter to the holy Marshall, a gaggle of high-ranking church types write that they “note with concern a number of your past statements, including your assertion that decarbonisation is ‘leading the way in wrecking our industrial base’, ‘impoverishing our people’ and ‘sacrificing our energy security’. We are concerned these statements are misleading.”

Anyway, let’s move onto America, everyone’s favourite fossil fuel consumer and advanced weaponry centre.

A new report figures that the US is responsible for $10 trillion in CC damage over the last 30 years. China, meanwhile, has only managed £9 trillion in emissions-based havoc since 1990, so lots of catching up to do there.

Marshall Burke, who led the research and is an environmental scientist at Stanford University, said that “our emissions have caused damage not only to ourselves, but pretty substantial damage in other parts of the world”. Yeah, I don’t think it’s just the emissions that have caused “substantial damage” around the world.

So, let’s end on something positive. One moment. Nope, can’t find anything. How about this instead: arctic sea ice has reached its lowest ever recorded level. Luckily for busy humans, melting sea ice doesn’t raise sea levels – it merely causes mayhem for delicate eco-systems and the flora and fauna they sustain. Phew! As you were.

Be sure to tune into next week’s roundup which will be out in June.
