EDI in Practice: Applying Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Real Situations.

Equality, diversity and inclusion are not just policy issues, they shape everyday decisions, workplace culture and the quality of services people receive. This practical workshop is designed to help delegates apply EDI thinking in real situations, build confidence in their judgement, and make fairer, more thoughtful decisions in the moment.

Drawing on practical EDI experience in housing and related sectors, this session looks at how bias, assumptions, power and responsibility show up in day-to-day workplace and service scenarios. Rather than focusing purely on terminology or compliance, it gives delegates practical frameworks, realistic examples and space for reflection so they can approach EDI issues with greater clarity, confidence and awareness.

    What will delegates learn?

Delegates will gain a stronger understanding of how EDI affects routine decisions, behaviours and service outcomes. They will leave better equipped to challenge assumptions, reflect on their own approach, and apply practical tools that support fairer, more inclusive decision-making in their role.

    This course will cover

    • How EDI influences everyday decisions, behaviours and service outcomes
    • How bias, assumptions and power show up in routine workplace and service situations
    • Practical frameworks for analysing equality and inclusion issues in context
    • Allyship in practice: when to step in, when to step back, and how to act responsibly
    • How stereotyping and single-story thinking affect judgement, risk and fairness
    • Real case studies exploring common EDI challenges
    • Reflecting on individual and collective responsibility, and what can realistically change.

    Who should attend?

Anyone involved in shaping decisions, services or workplace culture, including managers, HR professionals, policy staff, operational teams, rent and arrears teams, resident involvement and scrutiny roles, and senior leaders.
