    What will be covered:

Extensive research shows that having access to green spaces offers significant benefits for both mental and physical health, with one recent study showing a substantial link between access to gardens and open spaces, with a reduction in anxiety and depression.

Studies have also highlighted how the rise of community-led garden programmes help to tackle social isolation and loneliness through Covid and have contributed to a sense of general wellbeing and belonging in tenants.

In response to the climate emergency, many landlords have recently stepped up environmental efforts to increase biodiversity and wildlife on estates with some simple initiatives, including installing bird boxes and hedgehog highways, planting trees and wildflowers, and building ‘bug hotels’.

We know that access to well-maintained green spaces is hugely important to communities, particularly in urban and low-income areas. However, frontline staff are still facing challenges in maintaining gardens within estates, with issues including budget constraints, resource limitations and empowering tenants to take ownership.

Biodiversity net gain regulations are also an important consideration for landlords.

This session will provide members with the opportunity to discuss the opportunities and challenges they are facing around gardening and maintaining green spaces, and to share best practice in a confidential setting.
