What was Soho like in the 1980s? You can read all about it in a new book by Christopher Howse. He makes it sound a magical world of poets and painters. And for him it was. But not for me. I was leasing homes for Camden so spent the '80s cycling through the rain and huddled up in cafes writing my notes.

HQN Blog: VfM number crunching – time to head North?

We’re always being told that housing is a bubble so we need to learn from others. Well here goes. Did you know that key parts of the transport system in Sydney Australia are run from Stockton-on-Tees? Now I’m sure that Cubic Transportation Systems in our North East are top of the shop at what they do. But I do wonder if cost came into it. Sydney has eye wateringly high house prices and Stockton doesn’t. It’s got to be a cheaper place to work out of. What can we take away from this?
