Many of us may experience mental health problems. However, if your customer or their family member, is experiencing severe and enduring mental illness such as bi-polar disorder, schizophrenia or a personality disorder the challenges may be great.

If the person is currently well, supported by mental health services and social services all may be stable. However, these days less support is offered, support and medication are often not accepted, and this leaves it down to the landlord to manage and support the person on their own.

This course explores severe and enduring mental illness such as bi-polar or schizophrenia as well as personality disorders. It looks at the conditions, signs and indicators, strategies to manage these cases safely and how to liaise effectively with statutory services. It will also consider dual diagnosis including drug induced conditions and the challenges of obtaining appropriate support.
