  1. Residents' Network best practice group: Engagement post-pandemic – staff session

    Details

    Free to members

During the pandemic resident engagement changed – we want to explore what changed, have you gone back to what you did before – did you embrace technology and go digital?

We want to explore with residents and staff what engagement looks and feels like post pandemic and what the future looks like.

For the resident session – we want to understand what worked well, Did you feel more or less engaged. Did you become engaged for the first time during the pandemic and why. How should engagement look like going forward – does technology or digital engagement work better or worse from a residents perspective? What about those who cant access engagement digitally what should landlords do?

For the staff session– what did you do to continue engagement during the pandemic? How did you adapt? Did you loose people who didn’t want to engage digitally or did you pick up some new people? Did you save money? How do you measure if your engagement is meaningful? What does engagement look like going forward?

In the joint session we will bring together the views of residents and staff to help draw upon some good practice that makes engagement more meaningful and relevant for all.

As always, the session will be facilitated by Elaine Warwick and Siân Humphreys, and take place via zoom. Members can book on to either the Resident session or the Housing provider session, and then can book onto the joint session as well.

  2. Climate Change Hub best practice group: New developments – What does the home of 2050 look like?

    Details

    Free to members

Central government has established that there’s a current need to build 300,000 homes a year as a country – and the sector needs to contribute. Whilst previous housing supply reviews have identified key issues, such as affordability and planning on top of a previous slow down of building due to the pandemic, where does climate change fit in? How do we ensure what we’re building at the moment is fit for purpose towards our 2050-legislated goals?

    What will be covered:

Understanding the new development context – what’s going on in the world of new developments inclusive of the Future Home Standard?

Current new development issues – what energy standard is needed; sustainability design considerations; avoiding ‘retrofit by regret’; heating source market; carbon offsetting (inclusive of natural sources and against current stock

Delivery – traditional build vs modern methods of construction

Residents – engagement, working together and resident refusal points to consider

Long-term considerations – maximising current stock sustainability, funding and lessons learned from working with internal stakeholders

Why come to the best practice group?

This is your chance to find out more about what’s going on in the world of new development. The event will be chaired by Jon Daley, Asset Sustainability Manager at Wirral-based, 13,000-home HA Magenta Living.

Magenta Living have built new homes via modern methods of construction and are working with numerous development partners (inclusive of site developers, zero-carbon heating sources and the University of Liverpool) to find out more on what we can learn about the home of 2050 now. Likewise, they’ve worked with best practice partners to understand what a 2050 energy rating looks like inclusive of carbon offsetting, heating sources and, of course, resident engagement.

On top of this you’ll be joined by peers to find out what others are doing; be given the chance to have honest and open discussions about the world of new developments; as well as given the opportunity to share best practice and ideas with a group of likeminded professionals.

*Please note that places are limited to two per organisation.

  22. Climate Change Hub best practice group: Office/operation decarbonisation – How can we make our working practices greener?

    Details

    Free to members

According to the government’s Energy White Paper, offices currently account for 80% of private sector greenhouse gas emissions. Likewise, associated activities such as employee transport, transit of goods and services, as well as goods and services themselves have been identified as key issues around decarbonisation. With so much going on to decarbonise our homes, where do we start in our offices/operations, and how do we become greener as organisations?

    What will be covered:

Understanding the office/operation context – what areas do we need to look at?

How do we measure our impact? – scope reporting and key areas, ESG targets

What does good look like? – ESG, accreditations and strategy

Office solutions – energy usage and generation, IT, waste and water

Operational solutions – fleet electrical vehicles, responsibly-sourced materials, green procurement practices

Transport solutions – electrical vehicles/infrastructure, green vehicle usage

Long-term considerations – agile working, office need, infrastructure

Why come to the best practice group?

This is your chance to find out more about what ‘s going on in the world of new development. The event will be chaired by Jon Daley, Asset Sustainability Manager at Wirral-based, 13,000-home HA Magenta Living.

Magenta Living are taking active steps to decarbonise their offices and are currently one of seven HAs currently to have obtained SHIFT gold around these key areas. They are also ISO14001 accredited for environmental practices, are a founding partner in the Good Economy ESG framework and actively monitor all associated areas, including electric/energy usage, water, recycling/waste and pollution.

On top of this you’ll be joined by peers to find out what others are doing; be given the chance to have honest and open discussions about the world of office/operation decarbonisation; as well as given the opportunity to share best practice and ideas with a group of likeminded professionals.
