Best practice groups

Held regularly, our best practice groups present you with a superb opportunity to meet with other members and discuss topical issues. One of the most valued aspects of HQN network membership, access to our best practice groups is FREE to members.

  1. The Residents’ Network best practice groups: Measuring success and target setting (joint session)

    Details

We all know how important the Resident Voice is, but how involved is this voice in setting targets (or key performance indicators (KPIs) for those in the know)? In the next set of our new look best practice groups we will look at aspects of this, both individually and as a collective.

During the sessions we will be answering important questions such as:

    • Who in your organisation sets the targets/KPIs?
    • How should residents be involved in setting targets / KPIs?
    • How do you really know it has been achieved, what does your success look like?

Before the sessions if you could complete this survey to help us decide on which targets/KPIs are important to you that would be appreciated. We will be discussing this in the meeting.

The first session will be for staff only, with the resident session the week after. The third meeting in the set will bring together staff and residents to discuss the findings of the individual sessions.

The resident and joint session can be booked through the links below (complete the booking form on that page).

All sessions will take place via zoom.

The use of Internet of Things (IoT) technology can provide an insight into our living conditions like never before. The technology can lead to the alleviation of health problems, lessen the impact and extent of fuel poverty, and reduce costs for social landlords.

Aico|HomeLINK and the University of Bristol have launched their research on the far-reaching benefits of Internet of Things (IoT) devices in the home, and the ethics surrounding their installation, with a direct focus on social housing providers. We are inviting you to participate in a webinar to discuss the implications of its findings, and to explore the benefits of IoT devices for both landlords and tenants

This free to HQN Cymru member best practice session will:

    • Explore the practitioner experience across a number of associations and councils
    • Highlight the key lessons of the project and launch the project report

  5. Honour-based abuse – what can housing do to stop it?

    Details

    Free to members

The 14th July marks the Day of Remembrance for all victims of Honour-based abuse and killings, marking the birthday of Bradford-born Shafilea Ahmed who was murdered by her parents in 2003, after suffering years of abuse for becoming ‘too westernised’.

There are an estimated 12 honour killings each year in the UK although the exact number is unknown as abuse often goes unreported. As housing professionals we have a key part to play; to spot the signs, to know how to help and where to get advice.

In this session Meena Kumari, specialist in honour-based abuse, will share her knowledge and experience and open up the debate on this important topic.
