Mayoral elections and future of city/sub-regions
- Type HQN Event (Virtual)
- Venue Virtual workshop
- Start 08 Jun 2021 10:30
- End 08 Jun 2021 12:00
The devolution agenda has been beneath the radar for the housing sector, especially as the White Paper has been delayed until at least late 2021. However, the issue is resurfacing with, for example, the Mayoral elections in May. From a housing perspective, the Greater London Authority and the combined authorities in Greater Manchester and the West Midlands continue to progress their strategies on tackling homelessness, addressing issues in the private sector, and delivering new affordable housing. In addition, the Government recently announced plans to take forward the Oxford-Cambridge Arc proposals that could see the development of one million homes by 2050.
This session will focus on two key issues:
- The state of play on devolution in England including the links with, for instance, local government reorganisation, the levelling up agenda, city deals and local growth deals
- The Implications for housing such as city region and sub-regional housing and homelessness strategies, investment/funding opportunities (eg joint ventures) and governance arrangements (eg partnerships).
Keynote speaker: Tim Brown, HQN associate.
