An introduction to the internet of things

Virtual workshop

Introducing IoT: Why should I care about smart homes? (Level 1 – introductory)

Your building can talk to you, do you want to listen to what it can tell you?

The world of The Internet of Things (IoT) has been expanding year on year. It’s nearly ten years ago that the world was introduced to the ‘Smart Fridge’. It has enormous potential for revolutionising social housing. Recently we’ve seen large scale IoT projects announced in social housing so the time is right to get a better understanding of just what IoT is and what it could mean for your organisation.

If you haven’t yet got past the idea that IoT is a lot more than a fridge that can order your groceries for you, or something that can turn your lights on and off with your voice, but you do recognise that a world where ‘things’ are connected and can communicate has enormous potential for revolutionising social housing, then this is the session for you.

What will be covered?:

The workshop will go through the basics of what The Internet of Things (IoT) is:

  • Where and how it is being used in the world around you
  • The key things you need to understand about the technology and
  • Highlight where and how its already being used in social housing today.

You’ll go away with a sound understanding of what IoT technologies are, what they are delivering and more importantly their potential for your organisation.

Essential for:

Everyone – junior to senior levels – wanting to develop their understanding of IoT and how it can be applied to a social housing setting.
