Accident investigation workshop – a legal perspective

Following the success of last year’s SAFETYnet annual conferences and mock trial, we will be exploring a legal perspective of accident investigations.
This interactive workshop will:
- Consider the investigation process
- Consider why we are investigating and for what reason
- Explore legal privilege
- Include a statement and report writing workshop
- Consider how the sentencing guidelines impact upon investigations; and
- Consider some recent case law.

The event will be presented by Matthew Breakell, an Associate in the Regulatory – Safety Health and Environment Team at DAC Beachcroft.
Matthew specialises in advising in relation to corporate criminal investigations and defending prosecutions brought by regulatory agencies such as the Health and Safety Executive, Local Authority, Environment Agency, Police and CQC.
He has extensive experience in caution interviews including representing company directors at the police station in relation to corporate manslaughter investigations, and assisting companies through HSE/Local Authority investigations, caution interviews and prosecutions.
Matthew also represents companies and organisations facing coroner’s inquests as a result of fatal accidents at work or being associated with the accident, guiding them through the process and providing representation at the Inquest.

Cancellations and substitutions:
A full refund will be given if a cancellation is made 28 calendar days or more prior to the event, and a 50% refund if a cancellation is made 15-27 calendar days prior to the event. We regret that no refund can be given if a cancellation is made 14 calendar days or less before the event.
Cancellations must be made in writing, and will be acknowledged by HQN Limited. There is no refund for non-attendance, but delegates may be substituted at any time.
