Housing association signs up to be a Disability Confident employer

Network Homes has become a new Disability Confident employer.

The Disability Confident scheme is a Government initiative which supports employers to make the most of the talents disabled people can bring to the workplace.

Joining the scheme allows the association to tap into a huge pool of talent amongst disabled people with being able to recruit and retain and develop people with the skills needed.

Other benefits include:

  • Increasing an understanding of disability and how to make the most of opportunities provided by employing disabled people.
  • Removing barriers that might be preventing disabled people and those with long term health conditions from accessing employment
  • Being able to play a part in ensuring disabled people have opportunities to fulfil their own potential and realise their own aspirations.

Fiona Deal, Network Homes Executive Director of People and Technology, said: "The Disability Confident Scheme is a great initiative, enabling employers to tap into a wealth of largely untapped talent.

"There is also an opportunity to take what we’ve learnt from the lockdown and realise benefits from our investment in technology by acknowledging that work is something we do not somewhere we go.

"This puts disabled people on a level playing field and creates exciting development opportunities."
