Message to all HQN members and customers about Covid-19

Going back into lockdown needn’t mean we go back to the tough times of March. We are here to help organisations and have learned a lot from the first few months of the pandemic.

We upped the frequency of our briefings and dealt head on with the issues posed by working from home and disrupted supply chains. If you want a briefing on something just let me know.

And after the release of the Social Housing White Paper late last year, we are continuing to offer guidance and consultancy virtually to help you with:

  • Keeping residents safe
  • Boosting consumer standards (including the professional standards required of staff)
  • Getting ready for scrutiny of front line services
  • Delivering VfM (proving the rent increase is well spent)
  • Stress-testing your business plans for the disruption of the virus, Brexit, trade wars and anything else that comes along
  • Meeting the requirements of the new breed of in-depth assessments.

We can do almost everything we do now remotely and we have been able to support many members organisations throughout 2020 in this way.

The most important thing is that you continue to look after yourselves and your residents.

We’ve been through a lot together over the years: rate-capping, the fall and rise of council housing companies, stock transfer, CCT, inspection, eye watering rent increases one minute with rent cuts the next, recessions and crunches to name a few. At all times we’ve done our best to be on your side. And it’s great to see younger members coming on board as we get to grips with building a safer future after Grenfell.

I am very grateful personally for your continued support through all of this.

“Once more unto the breach” – as an obscure English playwright from the Midlands put it.

"It’s been positive how HQN have maintained the number and quality of the briefings and events circuiting since lockdown. That’s quite an achievement."
