About us

Supporting equality, diversity and inclusion professionals in the social housing sector.

About us

With the ever-growing diversity in the makeup of our society, equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) has never been more important. Working across a broad cross section of society, social housing providers need to be at the forefront of promoting a safe and welcoming space for both tenants and employees.

In addition, housing providers need to ensure they are working according to the Equality Act 2010.

The Equality and Diversity Network can help you achieve this. The network covers topics including:

  • Gender equality
  • Sexual orientation
  • Race and religion
  • Transgender and intersex
  • Sexual harassment
  • Board representation
  • Recruitment
  • Champions of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and influencing others
  • Tenant profiling
  • Hate crime
  • Supporting tenants from different and diverse communities
  • Changing learned and ingrained behaviour and cultures
  • Challenging constructively.

Colin Heyman

Colin Heyman works for a very small consultancy called Maine-stream that has worked in the field of both Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), and Leadership, for over 25 years. He's worked with a lot of different organisations, for example Housing Associations, Local Authorities, arts organisations, Universities, the third sector, and small private companies.

Although not a housing expert, Colin has worked with a lot of different associations over the years so has some understanding of the sector. His EDI expertise and somewhat external perspective can help you to move forward in your EDI practice.
