In 2016 the health and safety Executive (HSE) successfully prosecuted over 43 companies and individuals resulting in fines and suspended prison sentences.

Around 75% of these convictions were based on breaches of the Health and Safety At Work Act 1974.

It is essential that organisations and their health and safety teams have a baseline understanding of their general duties under the Health and Safety At Work Act 1974, which also lists policies, procedures, risk assessments and training within the act.
